Slime in nature is an awesome animal! No, wait – a puzzling plant? Uhh… actually, it’s neither! Make fake slime at home, then go out and photograph the real thing in nature. Bonus points for finding 'dog vomit slime mould' (see below)!
What to do
Your mission is:
Instructions
WATCH THIS!
1. GET SLIME-SPIRATION
Get primed for slime by reading up on slime mold. Your slime is will be slimy but it can only dream* of being as mysterious as dog vomit slime mold (see below). It's not a plant, and it's not an animal, but it can move around – it’s a protist! It doesn't have a brain but it's pretty smart. Protists help produce oxygen that we breathe (important!).
Christian: "Wait a second, if slime doesn't have a brain can slime dream?"
2. BUILD YOUR BASES
Kick off by prepping your borax mixture – mix 2 teaspoons of borax into 1 cup of hot water, stir until it dissolves, and put it aside for later.
Next, mix ½ cup of PVA and ½ cup of shaving foam into a bowl together.
3. BREAK THE RULES!
For this part, you get to experiment! The measurements don’t have to be exact, so you can mess around with the amounts and combos to create your own ultimate slime.
If you want, add a pump of moisturiser to make it stretchier, or a squirt of baby oil to bring out the shine! And chuck in some food colouring to get your customised colouring
4. BORAXTIVATION!
Time to activate the slime! Add a teaspoon of your Borax mixture at a time until the slime starts to thicken into a ball you can scoop up.
Keep adding Borax as you squish it through with your hand until it loses its stickiness. Once it reaches the texture you want, you’re fine to slime!
5. SQUISH AND UPLOAD!
Upload a photo of your slime to the Wild Eyes site – maybe even out in nature where the real slime (aka slime mold) lives!
Can you get it super-stretchy? If you improve the recipe with your experiments, upload your version for us to try!
Tip: Keep your gooey slime in a resealable bag to keep it fresh.
